Ms. Marvel Star Reveals Show Characters Return In Captain Marvel 2 – Screen Rant

The family of Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), will return for The Marvels after the Disney+ show, actress Zenobia Shroff has confirmed.
Kamala Khan’s family from Ms. Marvel will return for The Marvels. A follow-up to the massively successful 2019 movie Captain Marvel, which directly preceded Marvel’s biggest tentpole, Avengers: Endgame, The Marvels will expand on the story of Brie Larson’s titular heroine, Carol Danvers. The original film, which was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, saw Carol living among the Kree before eventually finding her way back to Earth. The repercussions of Carol’s journey will now play out in The Marvels, which is being helmed by Candyman filmmaker Nia DaCosta off a screenplay by Megan McDonnell. The Marvels will see MCU veterans  Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Randall Park (Jimmy Woo) reprise their roles from the original film. Teyonah Parris will also return as Monica Rambeau after WandaVision with Iman Vellani’s breakout superhero, Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, also making an appearance.
Before Vellani’s Kamala can cross over to The Marvels, she will first be formally introduced to the MCU in the upcoming Disney+ show Ms. Marvel, scheduled to premiere early next year. The six-episode series will explore the origins of Marvel’s first Muslim superheroine, described as a 16-year-old Pakistani-American who writes superhero fan fiction, particularly of Captain Marvel. In February 2021, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that Ms. Marvel would set up The Marvels. He did not go into details about how the show would go about doing so, but at that time fans assumed that it would simply pave the path for Vellani to make her cinematic debut. However, it now appears that several more characters from the series will be making a leap to the big screen, as has been suggested by one of the show’s stars.

In a now-deleted image that Zenobia Shroff, who plays Kamala’s mother, Muneeba Khan, in Ms. Marvel, posted on Instagram (via The Direct), the actress confirmed the return of Kamala’s family in The Marvels. In the caption of her post, Shroff bid adieu to London, where The Marvels has been filming. She also expressed gratitude towards some cast and crew members of the sequel, including DaCosta, Larson, and Jackson, at the same time confirming that actors Mohan Kapur and Saagar Shaikh, who play Kamala’s father and brother Yusuf and Amir Khan, had shot for the movie along with her. Read the caption for Shroff’s deleted post below.

Shroff’s new social media post confirms that the ensemble for The Marvels is shaping up to be the most diverse for any MCU project so far. The movie already features a mix of seasoned and novice actors from all over the franchise, and recently, it has expanded its cast by including new stars, such as The Handmaid’s Tale‘s Zawe Ashton, who has been roped in to play a mysterious villain. Earlier this month, the movie also officially added Parasite actor Park Seo-Joon, although the specifics of his character remain undisclosed. These casting details prove that The Marvels possesses an impressive global reach, and thus it can be counted on to entertain audiences worldwide.
Given that Marvel is stressing so much on The Marvels being an ensemble rather than a simple sequel to Captain Marvel, it makes sense for the movie to include Kamala’s family, as it helps integrate the backstory of the co-lead better. As of yet, fans do not know what impact Kamala’s family has on her journey as a superhero, but with her mother, father, and brother being retained for The Marvels, it is certain that the characters aren’t just there in the background; rather, they are in important in terms of twists, turns, and storytelling. The news also does make one wonder if any other characters from Ms Marvel will show up in The Marvels, but to know for sure, fans will have to wait, at least, until the series premieres.
