8 Obscure Marvel Characters In Video Games – TheGamer

Marvel has many long-running comic series, and with it are obscure characters – some of which have shown up in video games.
Marvel as a brand is riding a high of popularity that it may never come down from thanks to the wild success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film franchise turned the Avengers into a worldwide-known super team that finally shared the stage with the Justice League.

It continues to turn obscure Marvel characters mainstream, with the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy becoming household names. The world of video games tries to do the same thing, so it's important to know which lesser-known heroes and villains are popping up, regardless of platform or genre.
Marvel's Midnight Suns is an upcoming turn-based tactical game developed by the creators of the critically-acclaimed X-Com series, Firaxis Games. Midnight Suns focuses on vampires and the supernatural, so the roster of heroes in the game extends far past the typical Avengers or X-Men lineup.
One playable character confirmed for the game's roster is Nico Minoru. She can manipulate magic and is most notable in pop culture as a primary protagonist in the Marvel series The Runaways.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are anticipating the arrival of Richard Rider, aka Nova, to the universe. He's a member of the Nova Corps, the police force stationed on the planet of Xandar, that audiences were introduced to in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Often portrayed as a teen and a member of the Champions and/or Young Avengers, there's a chance he appears in either an upcoming film or Disney+ series. He's playable as an adult in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: Black Order, the Nintendo Switch exclusive sequel to the popular licensed action role-playing game.
You might think that accomplished actress Anya Taylor-Joy playing a character might make them mainstream, but sadly the portrayal of Magik by the actress came by way of the oft-delayed and forgotten about Fox film The New Mutants.
Magik is set to take the stage in Marvel's Midnight Suns game and the powerful magic-user might also appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the coming years, considering she's the sibling to wildly popular X-Men strong guy, Colossus.
Elsa Bloodstone is a supernatural-adjacent superhero who recently was part of the roster for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on the Nintendo Switch, and will likely serve as a post-launch DLC character in Marvel Midnight Suns.
In many ways, she's a combination of Blade and Hawkeye in that she's an expert marksman with a knack for killing and hunting anything otherworldly. She has all of the makings of a character Marvel can pivot into popularity, and it's more a matter of when not if.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched alongside the PS5, and fans were shocked that another Spider-Man game from Insomniac Games was released only two years after the acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man starring Peter Parker did in 2018.
The moment Roxxon was positioned as a key antagonist to Miles in the game it was clear Simon Krieger would make an appearance. The Roxxon businessman is a minor character in the comics who serves as the trope-filled businessman willing to do anything to increase profit margins.
Dum Dum Dugan is a member of the Howling Commandos, and among them has the largest personality of the bunch. He's one of Steve Rogers' most trusted allies and made his appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Captain America: The First Avenger.

Fans can also come across the lovable soldier in Marvel's Avengers, the Games as Service title that launched in late 2020 and recently saw the release of the War For Wakanda expansion featuring the Black Panther. Dugan serves as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and can interact with the player.
Though Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos Montreal has yet to release, the marketing and developer interviews for the game have confirmed that Lady Hellbender will be a primary antagonist. She's a tough warrior who grew up in a harsh alien environment and was molded into something terrifying brutal because of it.
Hellbender is known for her rule over beasts and is called the Monster Queen, which explains the numerous alien creatures the Guardians of the Galaxy can be seen fighting in the game's marketing material. She likely controls them and is using her power to make Starlord's mission much more difficult than it needs to be, and to some extent he likely deserves it.
Years removed from the release of Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games it's still wild to see that they chose Mister Negative as the game's big villain. Fans found it refreshing as they weren't tasked with taking down the Green Goblin or Venom, as was the case in almost every licensed Spider-Man game.
The game's narrative weaved the relationship between Martin Li (Mister Negative), the food shelter named F.E.A.S.T., and Peter Parker's Aunt May in a fashion that made it flow and interconnect in a way that the best Spider-Man stories do. He may not be top-tier yet, but it's clear that Mister Negative is now in discussions when people are talking about the extensive rogue's gallery of villains Spider-Man has to deal with.
