One of the most beloved Halloween films of all time is currently filming their sequel. Fans of Hocus Pocus (1993) will be glad to know that a new actress will be added to a lead role.
According to What’s On Disney Plus, up-and-coming actress Taylor Henderson has been selected to join the cast of Disney’s highly anticipated sequel Hocus Pocus 2. She is going to be playing one of three new lead characters who will be starring in the film.
It is safe to assume that the witches pots’ will be overflowing in this new-age sequel. Disney is no stranger to reboots and sequels, having released numerous times over the last couple of years that have introduced new Disney fans to live-action remakes of legendary classics such as The Lion King (2019), Aladdin (2019) and The Little Mermaid (2023).
We previously reported on spotting the production crew of the new film on set and in action. The film started production under the title Black Flame and Candles. The production is taking place in numerous locations such as Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Los Angeles.
All three of the original witches, Bette Milder (Winifred), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah), and Kathy Najimy (Mary), will be reprising their roles, which is sure to make classic Disney fans ogle with excitement. The writing of the script was handled by Jen D’Angelo and directing of the film is being conducted by Anne Fletcher, who took over the duties from Adam Shankman.
The original Hocus Pocus film was released in 1993 and was directed by Kenny Ortega. The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.”
There is no official release date at this time for Hocus Pocus 2, but it is expected to be released in Fall of 2022. (Hopefully in time for Halloween!)
