Why Marvel's Midnight Suns Is Delayed (& What The New Release Date Is) – Screen Rant

Firaxis Games has announced that Midnight Suns, a supernatural title centered around Marvel’s heroes, has been delayed until the second half of 2022.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactical RPG developed by Firaxis Games centered around Marvel superheroes, has been delayed, with Firaxis sharing the announcement on its Twitter account on Wednesday. Based on the 1990s comic series Rise of the Midnight Sons, the similarly titled video game was originally set to launch in the spring of 2022, allowing players to experience an XCOM-like strategy campaign full of beloved Marvel characters like Ghost Rider, Iron Man, and Wolverine. Now, however, it seems fans excited for the upcoming game will have to hold on just a little longer to get their hands on it than was initially expected.
In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players will take control of a customizable hero called The Hunter, picking out not only their appearance but their superpowers as well. The game’s character roster includes already established heroes such as Blade, Captain America, and Doctor Strange, all of whom will band together for tactical, card-based combat that will showcase all the various Midnight Suns heroes’ powers. However, unlike XCOMMidnight Suns will also feature some third-person exploration of an area called the Abbey, the superhero team’s base.

Firaxis Games hadn’t shown off a massive amount of gameplay regarding Midnight Suns since its initial announcement in the summer, but the snippets revealed thus far illustrate a game that may appeal to fans of both the XCOM series and of Marvel Comics more generally. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out now that Midnight Suns is delayed. While it’s not an incredibly long delay, it is still disappointing for those who were hoping to battle Midnight Suns’ villains soon after the New Year. However, the delay should mean that Firaxis will be given more time to polish the game, and hopefully make it worth the wait.
According to the tweet posted by the official Midnight Suns account on November 3, the studio has pushed the game’s launch date back to the later half of 2022, calling it a decision that “did not come lightly.” The post goes on to say that the development team at Firaxis Games believes in the creative vision of Midnight Suns, which is why the team decided to delay the game in order to ensure that it will be the best possible experience for fans.
More specifically, the tweet says that the extra months spent in development will be used to add “more story, cinematics and overall polish.” This means that the delay to the game will enable Firaxis Games to spend more time fleshing out Midnight Suns’ characters and story, on top of providing an extra level of polish to iron out bugs and glitches. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is set to feature a unique, supernaturally-focused story, and the added time afforded by the delay should hopefully enable Firaxis Games to make it more cinematic than it may have been otherwise.
